Reggie Hogan, Bass
Mr. Hogan was born in Buffalo, New York where his love for music influenced him to take music lessons on the acoustic guitar at an early age while learning fundamental techniques. Later, Mr. Hogan turned to the song enhancing bass guitar where his main influences were jazz bassists: Stanley Clark, Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorious and the great John Pattitucci. Mr. Hogan's music educational background includes Music Theory/Ear Training and The Business of Music to name a few. During the last 5 (five) years, Mr. Hogan, while continuing to perform in and around the Atlanta vicinity with the local contemporary jazz group Just Ahead, has delved into a new love found in the digital recording environment. Mr. Hogan wears many hats as the Owner, Recording Engineer and Video Production Engineer for Just Ahead Records, Music and Video Productions. Mr. Hogan's Information Technology driven educational background has given him an advantage while developing solutions for Contemporary Jazz, Gospel and Spoken Word artist's needs. Mr. Hogan is currently a Bass instructor for RPM Beatles Music Studios and also a Film and Video Major/Music Minor at Georgia State University.
Karl Cage, Sax & Flute
Mr. Karl Cage was born in New Orleans, LA and began playing alto sax at the golden age of 12. While being inspired by the late great saxophone player Johnnie B. Cage, his passion for the saxophone grew mightily. Karl played sax throughout high school and later played in the Florida AM marching band. Mr. Cage also performed with the popular R&B band known as "The Fabulous Capris" out of Monte Rey, Ca. Karl later joined the U.S. Army and auditioned and was accepted as a member of "The Forces Command Band" stationed at Ft. McPherson, Ga. Karl was later appointed saxophone section leader. Mr. Cage has traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Alaska and the Virgin Islands during his military career. Mr. Cage prides himself at playing many styles including Classical, Jazz, Dixieland, R&B and Gospel to name a few. Karl has performed with various local bands in Atlanta including, Freedom, Darin Rauk Big Band, Stash and Spare of the Moment and other local artists. Currently, Karl has made a tremendous impact as the saxophonist for the Atlanta based local Jazz group known as Just Ahead. Mr. Cage's soothing, smooth jazz style will be heard on projects in the near future through works associated with Just Ahead Recording Studios as a studio musician.
Tony Taylor, Keyboards
Mr. Taylor began studying piano at an early age. He first played professionally while in his early teens accompanying various local churches and choirs. Tony received his Bachelors in Music from the University of Memphis concentrating on Jazz Performance. While in college, he was the pianist in a production of the Fats Waller musical Ain't Misbehavin' and also the musicals Workin' and Tintypes. Upon graduation from college, he spent over five years working for Carnival and Princess Cruises as a show band pianist. In 2000, he spent three months in Shanghai, China as pianist for the Sandi Jarvis Trio performing at the Portman Ritz-Carlton. In the summer of 2002, he performed at the Hong Kong Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong, China as a member of the group J Jazz. From February 2003 until October 2005, he was pianist for the Latin band Serenata. He is also currently the pianist for Hoosier Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA. Tony continues to bring his many jazz influences into the mix with Just Ahead.
Bryan Motley, Drums
Mr. Motley grew up in Miami, FL. There, he took piano lessons while in elementary school and took up drums in his junior high school band. He has played as a drummer in high school and university jazz bands and in a number of jazz and rock bands in clubs throughout the Southeast. Bryan became interested in jazz after hearing the "Hard Bop" of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. His favorite drummers include Stewart Copeland, Art Blakey, Steve Gadd, Carter Beauford, Max Roach, and Philly Joe Jones. Bryan's musical goals are to have fun playing with great musicians and to foster a love for music in his kids. Bryan brings enhancing grooves and seasoned jazz rudiments to the mix while helping keep Just Ahead well rounded.
